1 – Sea
As if the Sea should part
And show a further Sea –
And that – a further – and the Three
But a presumption be –
Of Periods of Seas –
Unvisited of Shores –
Themselves the Verge of Seas to be –
Eternity – is Those –
2- Light
It’s like the light –
A fashionless Delight –
It’s like the Bee –
A dateles – Melody –
It’s like the Woods –
Private – Like the Breeze –
Phraseless – yet it stirs
The proudest Trees –
It’s like the Morning –
Best – when it’s done –
And the Everlasting Cloks –
Chime – Noon!
3 – Presentiment
Presentiment – is that long Shadow – on the Lawn –
Indicative that Suns go down –
The Notice to the startled Grass
That Darkness – is about to pass –
4 – Soft
Soft as the massacre of Suns
By Evening’s Sabres slain
5 – Night
A Night – there lay the Days between –
The Day that was Before –
And Day that was Behind – were one –
And now – ’twas Night – was here –
Slow – Night – that must be watched away –
As Grains upon a shore –
Too imperceptible to note –
Till it be night – no more –
